DLT Quick FAQs – Solving Common Issues

📘 DLT Quick FAQs – Solving Common Issues

Facing trouble with DLT registration or SMS delivery? Here’s a quick FAQ to help resolve the most common issues with Indian DLT portals.

1. What is DLT and why is it required?

DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is a mandatory TRAI regulation to curb spam. All SMS traffic must be registered through DLT for sender ID, template approval, and entity authentication.

2. Which documents are needed for DLT registration?

You’ll need:

  • PAN card of the entity
  • GST certificate
  • Authorization letter
  • Company domain email

3. Why are my SMS messages failing?

This may happen due to:

  • Unregistered or expired template
  • Incorrect header (sender ID)
  • DLT not synced with your SMS gateway
  • Operator-level delays or template mismatches

4. How long does template approval take?

It usually takes 24–48 hours. However, Airtel and Jio tend to be faster. Vodafone Idea may take longer in some cases.

5. Can I use the same template across all operators?

Yes, but the template must be approved by each operator’s DLT portal individually unless using cross-operator sync (available in some cases).

6. What's a consent template and is it mandatory?

Yes. Consent templates describe what you’re sending to the user and are required for promotional and service messages. These must be pre-approved on DLT.

7. What if I don't have a domain email?

DLT portals usually require an official domain email (e.g., info@yourcompany.com). Free emails like Gmail or Yahoo may be rejected. You can purchase a domain and set up email hosting.

8. Do I need to register separately on each operator's DLT portal?

No. Once you're registered with one operator (Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL), you can use your DLT Entity ID across other portals. However, headers and templates must be uploaded separately per operator unless integrated.

9. What’s the difference between promotional and transactional templates?

  • Promotional: Marketing or sales messages. Sent between 10 AM and 9 PM only.
  • Transactional: Service updates like OTPs, alerts, or account activity — sent 24/7.
