DLT Registration Process for SMS Clients

This guide outlines the step-by-step process to get registered on India’s DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platforms, which is mandatory for sending bulk SMS messages as per TRAI regulations.

Step-by-Step Registration

1. Choose a DLT Portal:
   You can register with any one of the telecom operators' portals like Jio (TrueConnect), Airtel, Vodafone Idea (VILPower), BSNL, or Videocon. Jio is commonly recommended for first-time users.
2. Register as a Principal Entity (PE):
   Fill in your company details and upload the following:
   • PAN card (Company or Proprietor)
   • GST certificate (if applicable)
   • Address proof (Electricity bill, Rent Agreement, etc.)
   • Letter of Authorization (on company letterhead)
   • Authorized Signatory ID proof (Aadhaar, DL, etc.)
3. Email & Mobile Verification:
   Use your official email and mobile number. OTP-based verification will be sent to both.
4. Register Headers (Sender ID):
   Apply for your 6-character Sender ID. For example: “INFOTE” or “BANKTX”.
   Note: Promotional headers are pre-assigned (e.g., AX-XXXXXX); Transactional/Service headers need approval.
5. Add SMS Templates:
   Register the exact message format you intend to send, with variable placeholders like {{name}}, {{otp}}, etc. Each template must be linked to a registered header.
6. Get Template Approved:
   The DLT portal team will approve or reject based on content compliance. Usually completed within 24–48 hours.
7. Connect With Your SMS Provider:
   Share your Entity ID, approved Header(s), and Template ID(s) with your SMS vendor for activation and integration.

Estimated Timelines

• Principal Entity Registration: 1–2 business days
• Header Approval: 1 business day
• Template Approval: 1–2 business days
• Gateway Integration: Same day (once approved)

Fees & Notes

• Initial registration with Jio or Airtel may cost ₹5,900 (one-time).
• Other operators allow free registration if PE is already verified elsewhere.
• All SMS traffic is now DLT-filtered — unregistered content will be blocked.
